This policy explains what data Islamic Vault collects, why we collect it, and what choices you have. It covers the website islamic-vault.com and the Islamic Vault app for iPhone and Apple Watch.
We collect as little data as possible. We do not sell your data. We do not use it for advertising or to track you across other apps and websites.
Islamic Vault is run by Medita. Medita is responsible for your personal data (the data controller).

An account is optional. You can use most of Islamic Vault without one.
If you create an account, we store your name, your email address and your password. We never store your password in readable form, only a secure hash.
If you choose to set them, we also store a username and a short bio.
When you use account features, we store what you create: bookmarks and folders, reading progress, streaks, zikr counters and sessions, comments, Qada tracker data and your settings.
We use this data only to provide these features to you. Your comments are visible to other users. Your profile is visible to others only if you make it public.
On the website you can sign in with your email and password, or with Google or Apple. If you use Google or Apple, they share your name and email address with us so we can create your account.
The iPhone app uses email and password only.
The app asks for your location only when you tap "Use my location" or open the Qibla compass. You can also choose your city by hand without sharing your location.
Your coordinates stay on your device. The app uses the geocoding service built into iOS (provided by Apple) to turn them into a city name. It then searches our prayer-times service by country and city name to find the nearest prayer-times city.
The Qibla compass calculates the direction on your device. Your coordinates are never sent to our servers.
After you choose a city, the app sends the ID of that city to our prayer-times service to load the prayer times.
Prayer times for your chosen city are stored on your iPhone so the widgets can show them. They are also copied to your paired Apple Watch.
The app stores your settings on your device and keeps your sign-in token in the secure storage of iOS. This data stays on your devices.
The website uses cookies that are needed to keep you signed in and to remember your language.
The website uses Google Analytics to count visits and to see which pages are used. Google Analytics sets cookies and receives your IP address and details about your browser and device. We use this only to understand and improve the website.
The website uses Sentry to report technical errors. Sentry receives details about the error, your browser and your IP address. For a small share of visits, and for visits where an error happens, Sentry also records a replay of the session to help us fix bugs. Sentry stores this data in the European Union.
The iPhone and Apple Watch app use Sentry to report crashes and performance problems. These reports contain technical details about the error and your device, but not your name, email address or IP address, and are stored in the European Union. The app contains no analytics, advertising or tracking tools.
Our servers and database are hosted by Hetzner in Germany, in the European Union.
Prayer times come from Diyanet (the Presidency of Religious Affairs of Türkiye) and IGMG. Our servers fetch the prayer times from them. Your device does not contact these sources, and we do not send them your personal data.
We use these service providers: Hetzner (hosting), Google (analytics and Google sign-in, website only), Apple (Sign in with Apple on the website, and location lookup on your iPhone), Sentry (error reports, website only) and Expo (app updates).
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share it with advertisers or data brokers.
We share data only with the service providers listed above, to run Islamic Vault, or when the law requires it.
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists.
When you delete your account, we delete your account data. Copies in our backups are removed in the normal backup cycle.
Analytics and error data is kept for a limited time and then deleted automatically.
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and similar laws, you have the right to access your data, correct it, delete it and receive a copy of it. You can also object to or limit how we use it.
To use these rights, email info@medita.nl. We reply within one month.
You also have the right to complain to the data protection authority in your country.
In the iPhone app, go to Settings > Delete account.
You can also email info@medita.nl from the email address of your account, and we will delete it for you.
Deleting your account removes your account and the data linked to it.
Islamic Vault is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this policy. When we do, we change the effective date at the top of this page. If the changes are important, we will tell you on the website or in the app.
