Ayah 1 of Al-Muddaththir 74:1

Arabic Text

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْمُدَّثِّرُ

Transliteration

Yaaa ayyuhal muddassir

Translation

O you who covers himself [with a garment],

Ayah 2 of Al-Muddaththir 74:2

Arabic Text

قُمْ فَأَنذِرْ

Transliteration

Qum fa anzir

Translation

Arise and warn

Ayah 3 of Al-Muddaththir 74:3

Arabic Text

وَرَبَّكَ فَكَبِّرْ

Transliteration

Wa rabbaka fakabbir

Translation

And your Lord glorify

Ayah 4 of Al-Muddaththir 74:4

Arabic Text

وَثِيَابَكَ فَطَهِّرْ

Transliteration

Wa siyaabaka fatahhir

Translation

And your clothing purify

Ayah 5 of Al-Muddaththir 74:5

Arabic Text

وَٱلرُّجْزَ فَٱهْجُرْ

Transliteration

Warrujza fahjur

Translation

And uncleanliness avoid

Ayah 6 of Al-Muddaththir 74:6

Arabic Text

وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ

Transliteration

Wa laa tamnun tastaksir

Translation

And do not confer favor to acquire more

Ayah 7 of Al-Muddaththir 74:7

Arabic Text

وَلِرَبِّكَ فَٱصْبِرْ

Transliteration

Wa li Rabbika fasbir

Translation

But for your Lord be patient.

Ayah 8 of Al-Muddaththir 74:8

Arabic Text

فَإِذَا نُقِرَ فِى ٱلنَّاقُورِ

Transliteration

Fa izaa nuqira fin naaqoor

Translation

And when the trumpet is blown,

Ayah 9 of Al-Muddaththir 74:9

Arabic Text

فَذَٰلِكَ يَوْمَئِذٍۢ يَوْمٌ عَسِيرٌ

Transliteration

Fazaalika yawma 'iziny yawmun 'aseer

Translation

That Day will be a difficult day

Ayah 10 of Al-Muddaththir 74:10

Arabic Text

عَلَى ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ غَيْرُ يَسِيرٍۢ

Transliteration

'Alal kaafireena ghayru yaseer

Translation

For the disbelievers - not easy.

Ayah 11 of Al-Muddaththir 74:11

Arabic Text

ذَرْنِى وَمَنْ خَلَقْتُ وَحِيدًۭا

Transliteration

Zamee wa man khalaqtu waheedaa

Translation

Leave Me with the one I created alone

Ayah 12 of Al-Muddaththir 74:12

Arabic Text

وَجَعَلْتُ لَهُۥ مَالًۭا مَّمْدُودًۭا

Transliteration

Wa ja'altu lahoo maalam mamdoodaa

Translation

And to whom I granted extensive wealth

Ayah 13 of Al-Muddaththir 74:13

Arabic Text

وَبَنِينَ شُهُودًۭا

Transliteration

Wa baneena shuhoodaa

Translation

And children present [with him]

Ayah 14 of Al-Muddaththir 74:14

Arabic Text

وَمَهَّدتُّ لَهُۥ تَمْهِيدًۭا

Transliteration

Wa mahhattu lahoo tamheeda

Translation

And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life].

Ayah 15 of Al-Muddaththir 74:15

Arabic Text

ثُمَّ يَطْمَعُ أَنْ أَزِيدَ

Transliteration

Summa yat ma'u an azeed

Translation

Then he desires that I should add more.

Ayah 16 of Al-Muddaththir 74:16

Arabic Text

كَلَّآ ۖ إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ لِءَايَٰتِنَا عَنِيدًۭا

Transliteration

Kallaaa innahoo kaana li Aayaatinaa 'aneedaa

Translation

No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate.

Ayah 17 of Al-Muddaththir 74:17

Arabic Text

سَأُرْهِقُهُۥ صَعُودًا

Transliteration

Sa urhiquhoo sa'oodaa

Translation

I will cover him with arduous torment.

Ayah 18 of Al-Muddaththir 74:18

Arabic Text

إِنَّهُۥ فَكَّرَ وَقَدَّرَ

Transliteration

Innahoo fakkara wa qaddar

Translation

Indeed, he thought and deliberated.

Ayah 19 of Al-Muddaththir 74:19

Arabic Text

فَقُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Transliteration

Faqutila kayfa qaddar

Translation

So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

Ayah 20 of Al-Muddaththir 74:20

Arabic Text

ثُمَّ قُتِلَ كَيْفَ قَدَّرَ

Transliteration

Summa qutila kaifa qaddar

Translation

Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated.

Ayah 21 of Al-Muddaththir 74:21

Arabic Text

ثُمَّ نَظَرَ

Transliteration

Summa nazar

Translation

Then he considered [again]

Ayah 22 of Al-Muddaththir 74:22

Arabic Text

ثُمَّ عَبَسَ وَبَسَرَ

Transliteration

Summa 'abasa wa basar

Translation

Then he frowned and scowled

Ayah 23 of Al-Muddaththir 74:23

Arabic Text

ثُمَّ أَدْبَرَ وَٱسْتَكْبَرَ

Transliteration

Summaa adbara wastakbar

Translation

Then he turned back and was arrogant

Ayah 24 of Al-Muddaththir 74:24

Arabic Text

فَقَالَ إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا سِحْرٌۭ يُؤْثَرُ

Transliteration

Faqaala in haazaaa illaa sihruny yu'sar

Translation

And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others].

Ayah 25 of Al-Muddaththir 74:25

Arabic Text

إِنْ هَٰذَآ إِلَّا قَوْلُ ٱلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

In haazaaa illaa qawlul bashar

Translation

This is not but the word of a human being."

Ayah 26 of Al-Muddaththir 74:26

Arabic Text

سَأُصْلِيهِ سَقَرَ

Transliteration

Sa usleehi saqar

Translation

I will drive him into Saqar.

Ayah 27 of Al-Muddaththir 74:27

Arabic Text

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سَقَرُ

Transliteration

Wa maaa adraaka maa saqar

Translation

And what can make you know what is Saqar?

Ayah 28 of Al-Muddaththir 74:28

Arabic Text

لَا تُبْقِى وَلَا تَذَرُ

Transliteration

Laa tubqee wa laa tazar

Translation

It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned],

Ayah 29 of Al-Muddaththir 74:29

Arabic Text

لَوَّاحَةٌۭ لِّلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

Lawwaahatul lilbashar

Translation

Blackening the skins.

Ayah 30 of Al-Muddaththir 74:30

Arabic Text

عَلَيْهَا تِسْعَةَ عَشَرَ

Transliteration

'Alaihaa tis'ata 'ashar

Translation

Over it are nineteen [angels].

Ayah 31 of Al-Muddaththir 74:31

Arabic Text

وَمَا جَعَلْنَآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلنَّارِ إِلَّا مَلَٰٓئِكَةًۭ ۙ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا عِدَّتَهُمْ إِلَّا فِتْنَةًۭ لِّلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ لِيَسْتَيْقِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَيَزْدَادَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِيمَٰنًۭا ۙ وَلَا يَرْتَابَ ٱلَّذِينَ أُوتُوا۟ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ وَٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ ۙ وَلِيَقُولَ ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ وَٱلْكَٰفِرُونَ مَاذَآ أَرَادَ ٱللَّهُ بِهَٰذَا مَثَلًۭا ۚ كَذَٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ ٱللَّهُ مَن يَشَآءُ وَيَهْدِى مَن يَشَآءُ ۚ وَمَا يَعْلَمُ جُنُودَ رَبِّكَ إِلَّا هُوَ ۚ وَمَا هِىَ إِلَّا ذِكْرَىٰ لِلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

Wa maaja''alnaaa As haaban naari illaa malaaa 'ikatanw wa maa ja'alnaa 'iddatahum illaa fitnatal lillazeena kafaroo liyastayqinal lazeena ootul kitaaba wa yazdaadal lazeena aamanooo eemaananw wa laa yartaabal lazeena ootul kitaaba walmu'minoona wa liyaqoolal lazeena fee quloo bihim maradunw walkaafiroona maazaaa araadal laahu bihaazaa masalaa
kazaalika yudillul laahu many yashaaa'u wa yahdee many yashaaa'
wa maa ya'lamu junooda rabbika illaa hoo
wa maa hiya illaa zikraa lil bashar

Translation

And We have not made the keepers of the Fire except angels. And We have not made their number except as a trial for those who disbelieve - that those who were given the Scripture will be convinced and those who have believed will increase in faith and those who were given the Scripture and the believers will not doubt and that those in whose hearts is hypocrisy and the disbelievers will say, "What does Allah intend by this as an example?" Thus does Allah leave astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none knows the soldiers of your Lord except Him. And mention of the Fire is not but a reminder to humanity.

Ayah 32 of Al-Muddaththir 74:32

Arabic Text

كَلَّا وَٱلْقَمَرِ

Transliteration

Kallaa walqamar

Translation

No! By the moon

Ayah 33 of Al-Muddaththir 74:33

Arabic Text

وَٱلَّيْلِ إِذْ أَدْبَرَ

Transliteration

Wallaili adbar

Translation

And [by] the night when it departs

Ayah 34 of Al-Muddaththir 74:34

Arabic Text

وَٱلصُّبْحِ إِذَآ أَسْفَرَ

Transliteration

Wassub hi izaaa asfar

Translation

And [by] the morning when it brightens,

Ayah 35 of Al-Muddaththir 74:35

Arabic Text

إِنَّهَا لَإِحْدَى ٱلْكُبَرِ

Transliteration

Innahaa la ihdal kubar

Translation

Indeed, the Fire is of the greatest [afflictions]

Ayah 36 of Al-Muddaththir 74:36

Arabic Text

نَذِيرًۭا لِّلْبَشَرِ

Transliteration

Nazeeral lilbashar

Translation

As a warning to humanity -

Ayah 37 of Al-Muddaththir 74:37

Arabic Text

لِمَن شَآءَ مِنكُمْ أَن يَتَقَدَّمَ أَوْ يَتَأَخَّرَ

Transliteration

Liman shaaa'a minkum any yataqaddama aw yata akhkhar

Translation

To whoever wills among you to proceed or stay behind.

Ayah 38 of Al-Muddaththir 74:38

Arabic Text

كُلُّ نَفْسٍۭ بِمَا كَسَبَتْ رَهِينَةٌ

Transliteration

Kullu nafsim bim kasabat raheenah

Translation

Every soul, for what it has earned, will be retained

Ayah 39 of Al-Muddaththir 74:39

Arabic Text

إِلَّآ أَصْحَٰبَ ٱلْيَمِينِ

Transliteration

Illaaa as haabal yameen

Translation

Except the companions of the right,

Ayah 40 of Al-Muddaththir 74:40

Arabic Text

فِى جَنَّٰتٍۢ يَتَسَآءَلُونَ

Transliteration

Fee jannaatiny yata saaa'aloon

Translation

[Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other

Ayah 41 of Al-Muddaththir 74:41

Arabic Text

عَنِ ٱلْمُجْرِمِينَ

Transliteration

'Anil mujrimeen

Translation

About the criminals,

Ayah 42 of Al-Muddaththir 74:42

Arabic Text

مَا سَلَكَكُمْ فِى سَقَرَ

Transliteration

Maa salakakum fee saqar

Translation

[And asking them], "What put you into Saqar?"

Ayah 43 of Al-Muddaththir 74:43

Arabic Text

قَالُوا۟ لَمْ نَكُ مِنَ ٱلْمُصَلِّينَ

Transliteration

Qaaloo lam naku minal musalleen

Translation

They will say, "We were not of those who prayed,

Ayah 44 of Al-Muddaththir 74:44

Arabic Text

وَلَمْ نَكُ نُطْعِمُ ٱلْمِسْكِينَ

Transliteration

Wa lam naku nut'imul miskeen

Translation

Nor did we used to feed the poor.

Ayah 45 of Al-Muddaththir 74:45

Arabic Text

وَكُنَّا نَخُوضُ مَعَ ٱلْخَآئِضِينَ

Transliteration

Wa kunnaa nakhoodu ma'al khaaa'ideen

Translation

And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it],

Ayah 46 of Al-Muddaththir 74:46

Arabic Text

وَكُنَّا نُكَذِّبُ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

Transliteration

Wa kunnaa nukazzibu bi yawmid Deen

Translation

And we used to deny the Day of Recompense

Ayah 47 of Al-Muddaththir 74:47

Arabic Text

حَتَّىٰٓ أَتَىٰنَا ٱلْيَقِينُ

Transliteration

Hattaaa ataanal yaqeen

Translation

Until there came to us the certainty."

Ayah 48 of Al-Muddaththir 74:48

Arabic Text

فَمَا تَنفَعُهُمْ شَفَٰعَةُ ٱلشَّٰفِعِينَ

Transliteration

Famaa tanfa'uhum shafaa'atush shaafi'een

Translation

So there will not benefit them the intercession of [any] intercessors.

Ayah 49 of Al-Muddaththir 74:49

Arabic Text

فَمَا لَهُمْ عَنِ ٱلتَّذْكِرَةِ مُعْرِضِينَ

Transliteration

Famaa lahum 'anittazkirati mu'rideen

Translation

Then what is [the matter] with them that they are, from the reminder, turning away

Ayah 50 of Al-Muddaththir 74:50

Arabic Text

كَأَنَّهُمْ حُمُرٌۭ مُّسْتَنفِرَةٌۭ

Transliteration

Ka annahum humurum mustanfirah

Translation

As if they were alarmed donkeys

Ayah 51 of Al-Muddaththir 74:51

Arabic Text

فَرَّتْ مِن قَسْوَرَةٍۭ

Transliteration

Farrat min qaswarah

Translation

Fleeing from a lion?

Ayah 52 of Al-Muddaththir 74:52

Arabic Text

بَلْ يُرِيدُ كُلُّ ٱمْرِئٍۢ مِّنْهُمْ أَن يُؤْتَىٰ صُحُفًۭا مُّنَشَّرَةًۭ

Transliteration

Bal yureedu kullum ri'im minhum any yu'taa suhufam munashsharah

Translation

Rather, every person among them desires that he would be given scriptures spread about.

Ayah 53 of Al-Muddaththir 74:53

Arabic Text

كَلَّا ۖ بَل لَّا يَخَافُونَ ٱلْءَاخِرَةَ

Transliteration

Kallaa bal laa yakhaafoonal aakhirah

Translation

No! But they do not fear the Hereafter.

Ayah 54 of Al-Muddaththir 74:54

Arabic Text

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُۥ تَذْكِرَةٌۭ

Transliteration

Kallaaa innahoo tazkirah

Translation

No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder

Ayah 55 of Al-Muddaththir 74:55

Arabic Text

فَمَن شَآءَ ذَكَرَهُۥ

Transliteration

Fa man shaaa'a zakarah

Translation

Then whoever wills will remember it.

Ayah 56 of Al-Muddaththir 74:56

Arabic Text

وَمَا يَذْكُرُونَ إِلَّآ أَن يَشَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ هُوَ أَهْلُ ٱلتَّقْوَىٰ وَأَهْلُ ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِ

Transliteration

Wa maa yazkuroona illaaa any yashaaa'al laah
Huwa ahlut taqwaa wa ahlul maghfirah

Translation

And they will not remember except that Allah wills. He is worthy of fear and adequate for [granting] forgiveness.
